inspiring the world to be a better place, one pen at a time.
let's get pen-spired.
Hi, my name is Tiffany Braxton, and I welcome you to be inspired by PENSPIRES! 🙂
My journey began in 2003 when I enrolled at Northwestern University to pursue a degree in journalism. I learned after one year that my true passion wasn’t in journalism—it was in teaching! So I shifted my focus, and in 2007 I graduated with a degree in Secondary Teaching and a concentration in social studies.
My teaching career was initially put on hold by various moves, and later to focus on raising my children. However, my passion for teaching—and the impact it can have on the world—never wavered. When I faced a life change that left me figuring out what to do next, the decision seemed obvious: I would return to teaching, though not in a traditional classroom.
At PENSPIRES, we create engaging materials with the goal of teaching life skills that make the world a better place one pen, one lesson, one person at a time. We really do believe the pen is mightier than the sword.
So, here’s to learning, changing, and living better together.
They say a picture is worth a thousand words. We make them worth more.
the three-prong method
To foster constructive behavior in society, PENSPIRES utilizes an innovative, multidimensional teaching method in its materials. Referred to as the Three-Prong Method, its three prongs or modalities—behavior modification, behavior exemplification, and behavior deviation—work in unison to generate maximum societal development in the pursuit of optimal behavior. The Three-Prong Method employs protagonists and antagonists because it’s necessary for readers to see how changes in behavior result in different responses. Specifically, the antagonist’s behavior must change within each prong as described below:
Within Behavior Modification the antagonist makes a mistake and corrects that behavior through words and promised change in the future.
Within Behavior Exemplification the antagonist practices constructive behavior. The antagonist’s behavior requires no change and is a glorified example to all.
Within Behavior Deviation the antagonist exercises incorrect, often reprehensible, behavior that they refuse to correct.Â
In the Three-Prong Method, the antagonist’s behavior causes the protagonist to respond differently each time, but the protagonist’s decision making is the ultimate driver in every situation. The protagonist’s decision-making and boundaries are the nucleus of the Three-Prong Method, rightfully placing the power in the hands of the protagonist.
Ultimately, the Three-Prong Method ensures that individuals in society are given the tools to examine their behavior and, if needed, correct it to meet exemplary standards. This is because the Three-Prong Method causes the individual to reflect on their behavior and its effect on others. Those with constructive behavior are both fortified and lauded to maintain their good behavior, as the method justifies it within themselves and to others. For those who have yet to create their own behaviors, the Three-Prong Method gives them the tools to recognize constructive and destructive behavior and know how to modify, if necessary, when the time comes.
We at PENSPIRES believe the Three-Prong Method is effective in achieving numerous forms of optimal behavior in society, and we look forward to seeing the change that benefits us all.
